Reflections on the first week of my coaching course

Feel quite surreal writing this, but I did it. I made the step, I made the investment in myself.

I’ve been thinking about coaching for a while now but I started this year being like, this is it, it’s the year to go for it. I’m so proud that I didn’t talk myself out of it.

It feels so good to be learning again, adding to my skillset and doing something for me that feels aligned to my values.

My cute office set up

Buy why coaching?

Let me take you back…Listeners to my podcast will know that I started interviewing guests in 2021 and I connected with a few life coaches and other types of coaches.

Hearing them talk about helping people change their lives, connecting with others and working flexibly just lit a fire in me.

And for the first time in ages, I thought I could do that. And you know what, I actually think I’ll be good at it.

Not to blow my own trumpet, but it’s amazing that I’ve got to 31 and finally found something that feels like this is what I’m meant to do and I can do it rather than feeling like it’s just a dream that would never happen.

At the moment, I don’t know where it will take me, it’ll be a side hustle alongside my job. It’s really exciting to dream about where it could take me eventually though.

The course I’m doing is a Diploma in Transformative Coaching with Animas. I chose Animas, as former podcast guest Rose Latham recommended them and when I went on the taster day, I just got the right vibe.

The atmosphere was fun yet felt important, and super supportive. Even within the first hour, I was like this is for me.

I can safely say, after just two days of studying, I LOVE it. It’s super fast-paced and at times a bit scary being pushed out of your comfort zone (think straight into exercises and coaching with your peers). But I was so chuffed to get good feedback.

I was pleased as punch.

And I’m writing this on the Monday evening, after a full day of work after a full weekend of training (9:30am-5:30pm) and it’s the most motivated I’ve felt in a while.

It just reiterates for me that I’ve made the right choice for me.

I’ll be documenting my coaching journey so I hope you stick along for the ride. If it’s something you’re thinking about then do drop me a comment on here or a message over on Instagram (that’s where you’ll usually find me).

To be accredited, I also need to do a set amount of hours coaching so I will need Guinea Pigs! I’ll be offering 40-1hr sessions at a ‘pay as you feel’ rate so get in touch if you’d like to experience coaching and have a goal you want to talk through with me.

Following your floral dreams with Wonder Flower

Have you ever had the feeling of knowing a career is for you?

Yann was walking down the street one day in Bristol, feeling at rock bottom in a job he hated when he had a lightbulb moment. I’m going to a florist.

This week, I’m joined by the lovely Yann, florist and founder of Wonder Flower based in Bristol.

In this episode we talk about creativity, inspiration and making your dream job a reality. For Yann, that’s floristry (his work is GORGEOUS), but for you, it could be something totally different.

If you’re ever in the Bristol area, go and visit his shop and say hey.

I’m not going to give anything else about the episode away…

Passion projects and a love of football with Carl Jones

Do you have any hobbies? Passion projects? Or a real love for something?

This week, I’m joined by a friend and former colleague, Carl Jones.

I’m biased but I think Carl is hilarious, he’s a comedian, author and podcaster. And he happens to be the only person I know who loves football as much as he does.

In this episode we talk about passion projects, falling in love with what you do and how to pursue that.

So I hope you come away feeling inspired to take something up or pursue a dream of yours. It doesn’t have to be something big like quitting your job to pursue a new career, or something that scares you.

Start small, start with anything that brings you joy, whatever that looks like for you.

To women

It’s International Women’s Day. A day to acknowledge and celebrate women who have paved the way, women who inspire us and shape our lives.

I wrote some words for an instagram post and wanted to share them with you here.

To women

To the mums for all they do

To godmothers, aunties, grannies, nannies and grandmas

To work mums bringing in food to share

To the hairdressers and makeup artists who makes us feel fabulous

To the organisers, decorators and interior designers who reflect our style in our homes

To the retail workers who spend time chatting with us

To the friends who make us laugh and have heard us cry

To the women who surround you in a big hug when you need it the most

To the women supporting other women in business

To the coaches, therapists and counsellors helping us grow

To the women in male-led industries, keep going

To the fitness instructors cheerleading you on

To the carers, to the doctors and nurses

To teachers and teaching assistants who shape our lives

To the women pioneers who paved the way before us

To the song writers making us feel less alone

To the content creators helping us feel seen

To the actresses, authors and activists doing their bit to make us think

To women.

Stand tall, be seen, for you are beautiful.

I hope you like it! And I hope today has helped you to feel grateful for the fabulous women in your life.

Embracing deafness and loving it with Samantha Baines

For this week’s podcast episode I’m joined by the wonderful and hilarious Samantha Baines. Samantha is an author, actress, comedian and podcaster (I mean, what can she not do?!)

Samantha has become an “accidental activist for deafness and divorce!” Samantha wasn’t born deaf but got her diagnosis when she was 29.

In the episode we talk all about that and how she’s embracing it, loving it and how it’s opened a lot of doors and opportunities for her.

It was a great chat, definitely had a lot of fun recording it, I learnt some stuff so I hope you do too.

That’s all I’m going to say… Listen below or search Put on your Positive Pants wherever you get your podcasts. Samantha’s details are below, go and connect with her, pre-order her book and buy her children’s books!

Getting your dream home

This week’s podcast episode is an important one (they all are), but we don’t talk about money, savings, mortgages, credit ratings etc etc enough!

I’m joined by Sam from Mindful Mortgages. We talk about how Sam got into the industry but how she’s trying to shape it too. Being more mindful or meaningful is what Sam is about.

She understands the importance and what it means to people to buy their dream home. It’s not just a house, it’s so much more than that.

I really enjoyed talking to Sam and to be totally honest I wish I knew she existed years ago when I bought my first house! But hey ho…

That’s all I’m going to say… Listen below or search Put on your Positive Pants wherever you get your podcasts.

Find your colour confidence

This week’s podcast episode is a colourful one! I’m joined by Becca Collier-Cook.

I’ve followed Becca on Instagram for a few years now and was so happy when she said yes to joining me! Her feed is just pure colourful joy and I love seeing it. We had a good laugh recording this episode and even came up with a new venture idea together during the episode!

We talk about how Becca herself became more confident dopamine dressing (after a transition from the scene kid era – if you’re too young, Google it and I’m sure you’ll have a good laugh).

We talk about how to inject colour into your life through fashion and interiors, bit by bit building confidence to eventually wearing a rainbow with pride!

That’s all I’m going to give away… Listen below or search Put on your Positive Pants wherever you get your podcasts.

Finding your pleasure

Warning! This week’s episode is NSFW! It’s a juicy one!

I had the pleasure of speaking with Rachel Maine, a Sex Therapist and Sex & Relationship Coach.

Rachel’s work allows people to feel more connection, adventure and pleasure in their lives. And who doesn’t want that?

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, Rachel works with people to find more pleasure in their lives.

In the episode, we talk about all sorts, but also my main takeaway was that pleasure isn’t all about sex baby! We can all invite more small pleasures into our lives and Rachel gives some tips on how to do that.

That’s all I’m going to give away! Listen below or search Put on your Positive Pants wherever you get your podcasts.

Designing a life you love

Have you heard of Project You?

You might have seen the beautiful journals in/on places like ASOS, Oliver Bonas and even in the Tate. I’ve had a Project You journal for the last 3 years.

I’m SO excited to say that this week’s podcast episode I’m joined by Selina Barker, founder of the wonderful Project You.

Selina is a Life Design Coach and for the last 15 years has been encouraging people to design a life they love. And, who doesn’t want that?

I loved this episode and hearing about Selina’s story, talking about the ups and downs (and everything in between). Selina’s energy is infectious, she’s honest and gives some great tips.

My main takeaway that I’ve actioned is not only putting time for me in the calendar but actually labelling it as that to further cement it in my life!

Anyway, I won’t give away too many spoilers. Listen below or search Put on Your Positive Pants wherever you get your podcasts.

What sets your soul on fire?

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about true happiness, what it feels like and how to keep it.

At the end of the day, whoever we all, we all want to be happy.

But do you know what that looks like for you? Do you know what makes you happy?

You might be reading this like, how can someone not know what makes them happy? Maybe it’s super clear for you and that’s great (I’d still urge you to invite more of it into your life).

But, we can get so caught up with life, in putting others before ourselves, living to work etc etc., and some people loose touch of what actually makes them feel happy.

The thing with happiness is, it’s personal. It doesn’t matter if your thing is something you think no one else will enjoy. You need to not rely on others for happiness. Others can enhance it sure, people are great, but think of them as an added bonus, rather than a necessity.

So where do you start if you’re not really sure what sets your soul on fire? And how the heck do I bring that into my everyday?

  1. Have a think now, is there anything you feel passionately about? It doesn’t have to be something big like world peace or climate change.

It might be that there’s a theme to those things that you could explore and work out what your values are.
  2. If you journal, start making a list of things you enjoy – again, doesn’t have to be big, small joys are just as important. If you don’t journal, write a list or make notes in your phone.

Then think about, how can I get those small things into my everyday more?
  3. Do you remember a time when you truly felt happy? What can you see, what can you hear, what can you smell? Is there anything about that moment that sticks out to you? Can you recreate it? (This is great free-flow journalling, again, if that’s your thing, or maybe give it a go – start writing and see where it takes you!)
  4. Is there anything from your childhood that you loved? Often we think of children as care-free and happy without the weight of the world on their shoulders yet. Can you revisit what made you happy then and either bring that in or try to capture the essence of that. It might be that you loved a yellow coat you once had that brought you joy and you felt comfortable in – can you add yellow into your life? Can you find outfits that make you feel the way you once did?

It’ll take time to build up a picture, but you’ll get there.

Hold onto anything that brings you joy, that makes you feel alive. Look forward to it, make time for it.

Are you feeling brave? Let me know in the comments what sets your soul on fire?

I’ll go first, mine is having meaningful connections with other people.
